I was prequal on the Captial One Venture so went ahead and apped. Instantly approved for 20k.
Next I went for Freedom Unlimited. I have the Freedom and AARP over a year, with 6k and 5k CL. Despite using both cards heavily, each show a balance of less than 200 dollars. I go in several times a month and pay them off. My total utililization less then 10% even before the Venture shows up.
With my lowest score at 725, it was still no dice on the Unlimited. I called the recon lady to plead my case, and to ask why.
"so why'd yall shoot me down on the unlimited? I thought I was doing good."
"Just too much new credit in the last year" She was right. New house, new car, 4 prime cards. Lot of inquiries last 16 months too. I'd say upwards of 25 but whose counting.
Basically the converstation was gonna see what I do with new cards for another year, and how I handle things. So I'm iced at for a year.
I really don't need the Unlimited but if they were gonna give it to me figure I'd go ahead and take it. I have serveral cards that do the samething, but you always wamt what ya can't have.
