Last night, I decided to do my monthly pre-qualify rounds and I received this one from American Express. Note: I've never seen anything previously other than the standard "we do not have any results for you"
Naturally, seeing the 100k offer I jumped right on it. I don't have any Experian inquiries so I figured a denial would be fine. After filling out the application I got the message saying "We need to speak with you" so of I googled that and started feeling optimistic. This morning, I called and spoke to a nice rep who said she would need to verifiy my identify due to so many fradulent applications over the internet. I answered all 3 questions correctly and she approved me and said she would overnight the card. Now for the confusing part. Check these scores: Equifax 647 / Transunion 662 / Experian 608
I have flawless payment (and auto) history with Chase, flawless payment history with Discover, and flawless payment history with Capital One. The only negatives that are keeping my scores so low are some 7 year old student loans (that have been rehabbed but nelnet will not remove) and high utilization, which is over 80%. I just don't get it. Why would they approve me? Should I do a second amex app? I've heard they can combine apps to one pull if done next to one another. Oh, also worth noting is that I was not given a specific apr on the "pre-qualify" I got for the BCP, it was a range. That is why I was not optimistic.
