Discover CLI - Data Points

Hello friends!

In the past I've received two CLIs on my Discover card that was opened last July.  The first CLI was for $500 in November, and the second was in March, also for $500.  I have been carrying a 0% balance transfer in addition to making 'category' purchases, so the card both sees a lot of smaller swipes and has been carrying a balance of around $3k.  My payments have historically been around $500 each month.  My SL was $5500, and the two CLIs made my limit $6500.

With my new account 0% promo coming to an end, I transferred most of the balance over to my new BBR, leaving my Discover with a balance of around $600.  I tried for a CLI a couple of weeks ago knowing I was a little early (it hadn't been 90 days yet) but also knowing many people have been successful after getting a "2-3 day" message.  Since I've seen a significant jump in my TU as reported by Discover (717 in April, and jumpted to 771 in May) I figured it would be OK if somebody took a look.  I was wrong, though - there was no "2-3 day" message, only an instant message telling me they couldn't give me a CLI at this time.  I admit I was a bit shocked (nothing?  really?...)

Now that 90 days has officially passed, I figured I would give it another shot... after a few seconds I saw the infamous 'slider bar' and a message telling me I was approved for a CLI up to $4kSmiley Surprised

Of course I took it all, and my new credit line is now $10.5kSmiley Very Happy

I don't know what prevented me from getting the same "2-3 day" message a few days back that so many others report getting, but in any case they certainly made up for it today.  I would have been pleased with a $2k increase, but $4k is fantastic.  (Keep in mind my resources are likely more modest than many on here, so even with good scores I didn't expect them to be this generous, and yes, I was honest).

My new accounts from May are still not reporting, and once they do (likely all at once) I'm sure my scores will take a dip, but that's OK, and is expected.  That's why we work hard for good scores, after all... to be able to get accounts we want, right?

I suspect this will be the last 'super CLI' I see from Discover; going forward my swipes with them will be small and basically only for purchases in their quarterly categories so I'll probably only use a small part of my current credit line, anyway.  I'm thankful that everything fell into place with the calendar such that my score is peaking right when I paid down the large balance.

I tend not to pay much attention to overall credit lines, but some quick math indicates with my May approvals and my recent Synchrony CLIs I'm now well over $100k total for the first time ever.  Other than a possible bump on my QS Visa in a few weeks which is anything but guaranteed (they said no to my QS MasterCard due to lack of use) I'm probably done with CLIs.   I'm not saying it wouldn't be possible to eek out a few more dollars, just that it wouldn't be meaningful or even useful, so I probably won't bother.

Hopefully the data points here will be helpful to somebody!  Smiley Happy

As always, I appreciate the encouragement and support of all my friends here... without you guys none of this would have been possible!   wavey_zps81xnuobx.gif
