This is a card that I'm pretty excited about - a "no frills" low fixed rate Visa through my local credit union. Something to balance out the higher interest rewards cards that are so common these days.
Last month I paid off one of my two installment loans through this credit union while DH and I were looking at cars. I had also recently paid off my Discover balance, so my credit score was optimal (TU 743) and DTI around 15%. We found our dream car a few states away, so I set up an appointment with the senior loan officer. The auto loan approval went smoothly and I noticed they were offering a new credit card. At the time, I was debating applying for the Amex Blue Cash Everyday to build my profile while getting another 12 months of 0% APR. My eventual goal was to work my way to approval for either Simmons Bank Platinum Visa or Barclaycard Ring for a low interest staple card, but I knew that would take some time.
After finding out the details on this Visa I was convinced it was a better option: 6.90%, 9.90%, or 12.90% fixed APR with no AF or FTF and matching BT, Cash Advance, etc. No promotions or specials, but I think the rates speak for themselves. The loan officer said I qualified for the lowest rate and that they could use the same HP from the auto loan to apply for the card - I was sold! The only downside to this card is that the initial CL maximum for individuals is $5000, which I requested and received. But I'm hoping that after a number of on-time payments, that can increase.
I may still try for the Barclaycard Ring in the future since I'm interested in setting up a Dream Account and looking into their Arrival World card. But I'm happy to have this UARKFCU card in the meantime. We've got an international trip coming up next year and this will be a good card to pay for it.
TLDR: Approved for 6.90% fixed rate Visa with matching BT/CA, no AF/FTF @ $5000 CL. Credit Union used same HP as auto loan application.
