Chase Recon Story...

Good Morning All,

Some of you guys might have seen my "Should I Apply for the Chase AARP" card thread. Well yesterday I decided to take my old Z28 to the shop and it is now top notch and decided I would keep using the car for at least another year. With that out of the way and my cards all paid off, I decided to apply for the Chase AARP.

I apped for it and got the "We need to review your account message." Right after receiving that message, I was considering apping for the CSP, but I knew I wasn't going to be able meet the 4K spending requirement unless I put a vacation on it, but I am not booking any vacation soon. So to get my foot in the door with Chase Ultimate Rewards, I also apped for the Chase Freedom card. I apped for it and got the same message.

From what I've read on this board, I decided to call the Recon line. It was early in the morning and I got a hold of a Recon rep. She said I was declined for both cards due to the balances on my credit cards. I was about to say oh well, I'll wait, but my reaction told her "So my balances haven't updated yet." And she asked to repeat what I said, and I told her, I recently paid off all of my accounts and have $0 balances on all of them except my AMEX. She then said "Okay, let me take another look at it." She came back and told me she will reconsider my apps and again put me on hold. Finally, she came back and said "I have submitted the recommendation to approve your accounts..." and I was like "Whoa!" And here comes the good part. She approved the Chase AARP for 7K! And approved the Chase Freedom for 9K making MY Freedom card my highest credit line credit card!

So just wanted to share this with all of you guys for future reference so you won't take no for an answer because apparently those reps can do a lot! Thanks to everyone on this board because I would have never known about the Recon line if it wasn't for threads that I've read on this board.
