Chase IHG - Update: Approved!

Update:  I just called and I've been approved!  Smiley Very Happy

I was expecting to get a message that it would be 30 days (or some other period of time) and honestly I was a bit shocked to hear the voice say "Approved" (I'm still a bit shocked, to be completely truthful).

I don't know the credit line yet, but that's OK... much like my Citi and BoA approvals earlier in the summer, I'm simply pleased to be back at all, and can always work on building the credit lines later.  (Edit:  I found a different number to call, and my credit line is $9k, APR 16.24%)

My credit reports became 'clean' back in May for the first time in 16 years, and my goal was to be deliberate in acquiring quality accounts to keep for the long-haul.  At this point, I've now been able to get back with all the lenders I was with back in the 'good old days', as well as pick up one or two "new kids" to round-out my wallet.  (There is one notable exception... Barclays has me blacklisted, but honestly I'm not too broken up over it.)

I want to once again thank all of my friends on here for the encouragement, and for at times being the 'voice of reason' when I was tempted to apply for things I really didn't need.  You guys are awesome!

Hello friends!

I was actually planning to keep this one to myself, but I figured that someone might benefit from my experience and since I've gained so much from the community the least I can do is give back when possible, so here I am.

I applied for the Chase IGH card (60k points/$50 statement credit offer) and the application went to 'pending'.

A Providian/Wamu account I had years ago was charged off just as it transitioned to Chase, so I've wondered for a while if they would hold that against me.  However, last year before 5/24 I had pre-qual offers for both Freedom and Slate (both online and almost weekly via mail) so I'm thinking there's a chance I might squeak through.

If approved I'll be able to use the points and anniversary pass for much-needed mini-getaways, and when you consider the statement credit the account is effectively free the first two years anyway.  If denied, I'll know not to be concerned any longer with any Chase products, which is OK, too.  I'm a bit of an outlier in that I'm not a good fit for many of their most popular cards, anyway.  (That could always change, though...)

When I applied, after a few seconds I got the 7-10 day message on the screen so after a few days I'll look around here for the automated number to check the status.  In any case I'm not the recon type, so whatever happens will happen, so to speak.  I don't have anything else lined up, so if I have to burn a HP (or two) I figured this is as good a time as any.  (Note that I provided my IHG number on the application thinking that might help encourage an automated approval.)

If this does work out (or if I'm denied due to new accounts rather than the blacklist) it might encourage others who had similar problems with Chase years ago, specifically with a Providian/Wamu card that was transitioned.

Fingers crossed!  Smiley Very Happy
