I have been working on getting my credit back in order after a long time of poor financial decisions and poor spending habits. So in Oct of 2015 I pulled my credit scores and found out just how bad off my credit really was :-( I have been working hard to improve my scores, by establishing a solid payment history and paying/clearing off some old collections, as well as charging and paying off my credit cards every month, if I don't have the cash in the bank to back up the purchase, I don't need it. Card utilization has hovered around 5%
I went on a bit of a credit card opening spree over the past 6 months starting with a Cap1 QS1 card, I have made alot of headway with my scores, almost 100 point increase on all my CS (see my sig) and about 3 weeks ago took a chance on applying for a Chase Freedom Card. I did not get an instant approval so I figured I wasn't going to get the card and in fact completely forgot about it. This afternoon I got an email that said Thanks for choosing Chase Freedom and welcome to cash back. At first I freaked out thinking someone else may have used my info to apply and ran here to check out my credit monitoring info. Then it hit me that I had applied, and could I really have been approved. The email didn't have a credit limit but said my card would arrive in 7-10 days. I immediately called the CS number verified a few things and found out I was APPROVED for the Freedom card with a $2000.00 limit!!!!!!!!!
This feels like a huge victory to me as it's one of the first times I have gotten a card that's not necessarily targeted to rebuilding or poor credit! I have learned a validate life lesson when it comes to credit and now have respect for for my credit! For now I have all the cards I need and don't plan to apply for any more cards, I want my CS to grow and my goal is to purchase my first home next summer!
